Thinking about a First Look…

Should you have a first look? But, it’s not traditional! No, it isn’t traditional but it’s many more things than that. It is quite special, a moment between the two of you alone (apart from me) where your true emotions can flow on seeing each other for the first time on the day you’re about to commit to one another forever and allowing yourselves to react in that moment.

When my husband and I were married a decade ago our photographer suggested that as we wanted to hold our ceremony in the late afternoon and, not miss out on time spent with our loved ones, we should have a First Look. I think it was called something else back then, in the olden days as our children would say.

We arrived separately with our bridal party and our photographer had my husband to be in place, in between an enclosure on a little beach that’s only there when the tide is out, so very secluded. The photographer came and got me and took me to the meeting place where I crept up behind him and the photographer snapped away.

It made sense to us to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon, getting all of our photo’s taken while our guests were still getting ready! So, after the ceremony we had the group family photo’s and shot off for 20 minutes for some bridal party shots around the venue while the sun was going down and then we were free to enjoy the celebrations with our guests.

If, as a couple you want to wait to see each other until the bride is walking down the aisle then I totally get you and love that too. Every couple is different.

Why a First Look could be considered..

• You want to hold your ceremony late in the day with the potential of running out of important daylight hours for gorgeous photo’s

• You want to enjoy as much of the celebrations with your guests as you can, without leaving for a couple of hours for photo’s after your ceremony
